This original oil painting of buttercups is built up with delicate, layered brushstrokes to capture the strength of the flower’s colour without losing its lightness.
I’m especially drawn to painting wildflowers found on my walks across the Marlborough Downs. There are three main varieties of buttercup, and this piece focuses on the meadow buttercup. In this painting, I wanted to hold the bold yellow and simple shape of the flower while keeping a sense of delicacy and understated whimsy.
